From 3 days of prodomal labor to a five minute delivery!

Ashley • Mommy of 2 beautiful boys and pregnant with my 🌈

Sorry long post but here is my birth story! On Monday I began having some regular light contractions consistently about 20 minutes apart. They went on all day and then slowed down on Monday night. I was able to sleep through them fine so wasn’t too concerned. On Tuesday they began to get a little closer together but stayed about 15-20 minutes apart and were not intense. Felt like period cramping and I got relief from my heating pad and exercise ball. Tuesday night I woke up a couple of times from the contractions and Wednesday they were strong enough to stop me in my tracks. Still at least 10 minutes apart so I’m thinking I still have awhile. That evening I get a call from my husband that he has been in a car accident in his way home from work. He was rear ended at a stop light an hour away from home and the car is totaled. By this time contractions are 5-7 minutes apart. I call my mom and stepdad and my mom and sister come to sit with me and my two older boys and my stepdad goes to pick up my husband from the tow yard. Hubby has to go to urgent care for some minor injuries when he gets back to town and I’m feeling like I need to go to the hospital pretty soon. When hubby gets home my mom and I head to labor and delivery to get checked out. I told everyone I would let them know if they would keep me after I get to triage (I have a history of slow labors). We get to triage about 10:15 and they check me, I thought for sure I would be at least at a 3 or 4. The nurse gives me a disappointing look and says 1.5cm. 😫 I’m thinking you gotta be kidding me. I don’t know how much more of this I can take l thought I had stayed home through the beginning stages. So they put me on a monster and after an hour I’m at a 2. They want to keep me one more hour so I call hubby and let him know they will probably be sending me home as I’m still not very dilated. Nurse comes back in half an hour later and I’m at a six! She rushes me down the hall asking if I want an epidural. Yes please! We get in the room and they offer me pain meds through I.V. while we wait on the epidural. At this point I’m in so much pain I utter a yes between back to back contractions. So the nurse checks me to make sure she can administer and I’m at an 8. She says sorry we are going all natural and tells my mom to call hubby and quick. I tell her I have to push and before she can get anyone in the room my body is pushing weather I like it or not. She gets on her phone and says I need everyone now! Doctor rushes in as I’m delivery his head and helps with the shoulder. One more push and he was out! It was so traumatic but also so quick! He was born at 12:29am on Thursday and weighed 8lbs 2oz. I was 39+1 weeks. Poor thing came so fast his whole face was purple from bruising but other than that completely healthy little man!
