Breastfeeding help?

Okay so, at first I was having issues getting my infant to latch on due to him going to the NICU right after birth, and the nurses giving him bottles with formula until I was able to see him. After he came home it was a struggle and I cried alot, thinking I would never be able to breastfeed. Well with practice and a nurse who came out to check on us once , he started latching on no problem and was only getting a bottle in the middle of the night. He's a month old now and this last week or so it seems like no matter what he is always hungry....and crying badly. I feel like I'm a dairy cow sitting with him on my chest all day but he still always seems so hungry. He roots and cries and..I'm starting to worry that I might not be producing enough and I had thought with him being on so much that he'd be improving my milk production. I'm a first time mom and just am so confused on the signs and whether he's actually hungry or just looking to suck for comfort. And he'll fall asleep mid nursing after about 10 mins or so and if I move to put him down he wakes up and the cycle starts all over again....it's gotten to the point where he's given a bottle . He's a little over 10 lbs but was born big over 8 lbs. I'm just so lost cause I feel like I'm starving him and failing as a mother, and I feel like every time I give a bottle its going to reset all our hard work. If anyone has dealt with this or has any insight I would appreciate it...
