Dental office for 1 yr old?

We need to take our son to the dentist. Wondering if we should go to a pediatric speciality clinic or if we should go to our regular dentist who is also trained to work with children. 
Thoughts?

Dental hygienist here. It depends on how your office is trained. Not all general offices are trained in childhood development or are set up to see children. Call your regular office and see what their protocols are. One essential thing is to make sure whoever sees your baby is knowledgeable in airway dentistry as it relates to growth and development. They need to be able to screen for more than just cavities, but also tongue/lip ties and jaw/arch development as it impacts your baby's airway.  Not every general dentist or even pediatric dentist is knowledgeable about airway screenings, but it is essential. The American Dental Association guidelines now require all children to be screened for airway disorders and recommend this begins at first tooth, or age 1 (whichever is first).

Check with your regular dentist too, mine has a pediatric dentist come in a couple times a month so we scheduled with her and didn’t need to go to a separate place.
