Is this too bing of an age gap?

Ok so I like this guy, and he likes me back but I’m hesitant to actually ask him on a date. He’s asked me but I’ve said no because I’m 12 and in 7 grade and he’s 14 and in 8 grade. All my friends said it’s fine and that’s it’s not to big of an age gap, and he has a late December birthday so for about 4ish months we’ll only be 1 year apart. Also my ex-bestfriend used to be basically in live with him so I feel like all the girls in my grade would, sorry will, hate me as my ex-bsf made new friends with the popular girls.

What is a 12 year old doing thinking about dating boys. Wait until your 15 AT LEAST to start dating. Focus on middle school and date in high school. Grades get you closer to high school, not boys. My opinion anyways.

There is a lot of maturity that happens in a year at your age. There’s huge differences between 16 year olds and 14 year olds for example. There are more physical expectations out of a relationship and just life experiences as a whole. Sorry, but I’d hold off and see if maybe you still feel the same way about eachother someday in the future. For now, I wouldn’t worry about dating, but if you feel like you have to, date people your own age/grade.

Yah there’s a big difference between 12 and 14. I personally don’t think you should be dating anywhere near those ages.
