Our Crazy Birth Story!

Michaela • Pregnant with baby #1!

As I’m writing this, im looking at my beautiful, brand new daughter, Hailey June. My story starts last Friday, June 14th. I went in for a normal check up, when my doctor checked my cervix and completed a bishops score. My score as a 10, which meant my cervix was ripe and ready. My doctor asked if I’d like to be induced on Wednesday, and I of course, said YES! My due date was the 23rd anyways, and I was so ready to meet my baby girl.

Tuesday, the 18th, I go into clinic for my last OB appointment. My blood pressure was high, which hasn’t been a problem my entire pregnancy. We go into the room, re-check, and it was still elevated, 152/92. My doctor informs me she is going to induce me that night. I go straight from clinic to the hospital and call my husband to meet me. Luckily, my best friend is also a L&D nurse and is working, so she is assigned to me.

That night, they induce me, and no contractions. At 230AM, they break my water, and I start having big contractions so I request an epidural. At this point I’m dilated to a 5. I sleep for a few hours, wake up, and at 945ish, I am dilated to a 10, it’s time to push! We call my doula/L&D nurse friend to come back, call my sister, and get to work. I push, hard, for 3 hours straight. Baby is “sunny side up” and not moving too far down the birth canal. Eventually, I request a break. I sleep for about an hour, before they start having me push again. I push for one more hour, but start getting the shivers, elevated heart rate, and elevated temperature. The doctor makes the call for a c-section. Baby is in a bad position and there’s nothing we can do, we need to get her out to keep me safe. At 4:13, Hailey June was born, weighing 7lbs, 13 ounces. She is utterly perfect! Beautiful, calm, eager to feed and latches quickly, easily soothes, and so cuddly and alert. Unfortunately, I felt so icky that I threw up, a lot, and didn’t want to hold my baby due to my shakiness, tiredness, and general awful sick feeling. I end up vomiting, a lot, at the end of the c-section.

Now, Hailey, mommy, and daddy, are resting in post partum, ready for bed, and happy as can be!
