Where does your child's car seat set in the back seat ?

I've got two kids. I drove a mustang until my first was 18 months old. He rode behind the driver's seat. Now I drive a Ford super duty. My oldest (2.5) is behind the driver's seat. My youngest (9 months) is in the middle. My truck is lifted pretty high, so I debated having them both by the doors so it's easier but decided on safety over ease.

My daughter was in the middle until she turned one and she weighed 25 lbs and was 28” tall.....I kept accidentally hitting my head or hers so I had to switch her to the side.... she sits behind the passenger because it’s more comfortable for the driver to adjust their seat.... 
if I had more room between the front and back seats to comfortably sit in the front with her behind me she’d be behind me.... or if she was still small and light she’d be in the middle

Ours has to go on the passenger side because my husband usually drives and he’s 6’4”. It’s also easier to see her there and I like not having to get her out in traffic when we’re parked on the street.
