Do Christians believe that consummation is a requirement to make a marriage official?

Is sex important in a Christian married couple's life? Why or why not? Is an unconsummated marriage not considered official?

I am a Christian and I believe sex is important in any marriage whether you are a Christian or not. It’s a way to be intimate and to know each other. God created it for married couples. I don’t believe in sex outside of marriage. If you are married, not having sex doesn’t make it unofficial. You are still married.

But no, I don’t think you have to consummate the marriage to make it real.

Sex is the act that brings two together as one flesh. I think it’s clear in the Bible that sex is what really makes two people man and wife, not just the ceremony.

Sex within marriage is holy and beautiful. Sex was made for marriage and is natural and right. You should not be withholding sex from your spouse, or them from you, as per 1  Corinthians 7:5. However that same verse goes on to say that you can abstain together if you both agree on it for a time.

Intimacy is part of marriage. But that comes in many forms.
I was unable to have sex for ten months of marriage, and I still can’t really. But we are still married, because we are purposely intimate in other ways.
You are still married if you are working towards having sex.
BUT withholding sex purely because you don’t feel like it is a deeper problem.
