Should we start trying to get pregnant?

Okay ladies, so here’s a little backstory on the hubs and myself. We have been together 5 years (2 year wedding anniversary is next month) and we have been discussing when we should start trying for our first baby.

We both work - he is military and I work in insurance, and admittedly most people think we are still young (me, 23 and he, 25). Life is a little hectic with the area we are in with traffic and we are currently stationed about 4 hours away from both of our families. Originally, we were going to wait until 1) I was closer to being eligible for a management position or 2) we moved closer to family for help (both with emotional and childcare since military is backlogged). Then we found out I needed surgery this summer and we held off on discussing it further until after I recovered.

However, that being said, we are coming closer to the end of my training and my surgery was a success. We have been talking about names and logistics. We have a nursery theme and an empty room in our house perfect for a baby. My family (whom we are closer with) has never pressured us, but I am the first born of my family and this would be my parents’ first grand baby (my MIL already has 4 grand babies) so they are definitely excited when we make small mentions of it, although they do not know to what degree we have considered it.

We want to make sure we have our kiddos young enough to still enjoy time with them when they are older. My parents are younger than his by 10+ years and are able to enjoy their children as adults more than my in laws - we want something similar for our children. We would love to travel, but we have pets so we don’t do that now anyways so I don’t see that ever coming up (which a lot of people have said to us in the past).

I am at a crossroads — I know the will never be a PERFECT time to have a baby, but what helped you ladies decide on when to start trying? At this point, we’ve agreed we want a baby, we just don’t know when!!
