MIL thinks she knows best???

Question

My mother in law told me that I need to stick to breastfeeding since I decided to do it but she said it with an attitude & then she said I need to breastfeed my baby for 30 minutes. Which my newborn breastfeed for at least 18 minutes. Which I told my mil & she said no she's supposed to stay on the breast for at least 45 minutes. But the doctor/ pediatrician said it's normal for my newborn to not stay on my breast that long because their stomach is so small. Remind you that my daughter is only 2 weeks & 3 days old. So who should I listen to? Is this normal?  Did any of your babies do that?  Did it get better?

tell your MIL if she has so much input and advice on how to feed a newborn maybe it’s time for her to pop another one out

Short, often feeds is normal especially at that age. I would listen to your doctor , they’re telling you right. Maybe do some research and give her some resources on breastfeeding. Also, you don’t have to stick with it if you don’t want to. Ya you chose it, but you can turn back on your decision. Because it’s your decision, no one else’s.

Listen to the pediatrician. Your MIL may have done it a certain way, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only way or even the right way. Tell her, “You did the best you knew how with the knowledge you had. Now I’m doing the same. I will come to you if I’d like your advice on it. Thank you.”

Each baby is different. My little one started off at the breast for up to 1hr and my aunt said my supply must be low (it wasn't). She now feeds for up to 20 mins, sometimes 2, sometimes 20.
Feed when your baby needs for as long as they need it. As long as they're happy and content once they've had a feed and are healthy and growing (good amoint of wet and dirty nappies), you're fine.
There are so many opinions out there, you can't let them get to you too much or you'll go crazy (learnt this the hard way). Do general research and go with what seems most sensible to you. Trust your mama instincts 😘

I paid attention to my DS. If he wasn't suckling still I either stopped  or burped him and switched sides. Seems to be a lot of MILs butting in on things lately here. Sometimes the best thing to do is smile and nod. You and only you will know what's best for your kid

my sons never ate for 45 min and he’s 4.5 months old. he feeds for like 20 minutes, pushes my boob out of his mouth then burps and is done 🤷🏽‍♀️ also you dont HAVE to breastfeed if you dont want to. as long as baby is having enough wet diapers a day and gaining weight you should be fine.

My lo could finish a feed in 5-10 minutes. Once baby is gaining weight I just fed on demand.

Your doctor knows better also keep in mind we know a lot more (medically and otherwise) than we did when you MIL was having babies
