At what point will my Dr suggest a HSG?

Is it something I should ask for, or just wait for them to suggest it? Are there certain things they need to see/find before they will do it?

My doctor suggested it at my first fertility consult. I had that done, bloodwork, and a transvaginal and pelvic ultrasound. The HSG wasn’t that bad but then again my tubes turned out to be clear! I have heard if you have one or both tubes blocked it can be painful though. Good luck with everything!

My doc ordered a semen analysis for hubby first because it’s not invasive.  When that came back perfect, she ordered the HSG before starting medicated cycles to make sure I could successfully pass an egg.  If tubes are blocked, meds are pointless.

It’s different for everyone. My dr ordered bloodwork and semen analysis at my first visit, when that all came back relatively normal he gave me some options. Letrozole, hsg, or iui. I chose to do the hsg and letrozole, but am planning to start iui early fall if letrozole doesn’t work. I wasn’t expecting treatments to start that quickly as I’m only 24 with no diagnosis!
