Talking to an ex

A few days ago my ex messaged me after about 2 months of us not having any communication. He claimed to miss me and still love me and all the things ex's say once they realize what they lost. Why do men do this after us woman are finally feeling good??? I started talking to him over text about a few things and he said he'd like to talk over dinner and if I'm ever free he'd love to hang out. I would like closure on a few things since we basically broke up through text so I asked him if he was free for saturday night on friday and he said "I might not be due to weekend duty at work". Well I know he didn't end up working according to his snap. And I told him that's okay we can figure out a different day and to just let me know. He said "I absolutely will :)" and I never answered him again bc idk what to say.. I haven't heard from him but if he's wanting to talk I kinda wish he would meet up with me asap. Should I say anything to him?..

Edit: I honestly feel like he's waiting for me to message him back since when I asked why he didn't reach out to me before he said he didn't think I'd want to hear from him. Idk man
