Is it odd or unfair that I would like a ring, doesn't necessarily have to be a diamond, but I don't want to get married?

Nope, not at all. I know a lot of people who are happily together forever and where a diamond ring. The two couples that come to mind were divorced each having adult children with their exes and not interested in marriage again but committed to each other

not unfair or odd!! me and my best friend have agreed mutually that marriage isn’t for us but we’d like to have rings/ maybe even a small ceremony. 
do what makes you and your S.O comfortable with💖 
a certificate doesn’t vouch for what y’all have between each other, many women find it necessary/traditional but i don’t think you really have too tbh.
