What would you do?

When we found out we were pregnant 3 years ago my husband and I chose a girl name and a boy name..we ended up having a beautiful little girl. We still LOVE the name Maverick for a boy. But next year Top Gun: Maverick is coming out and I think everyone will assume we chose the name from the movie. Would you pick a new name or stick with your original name?

My daughters name is Temperance. A lot of people believe it’s from the show Bones (which I really do enjoy) but it’s not. We picked it because it’s a beautiful name from the Puritan era with a meaning that is important to us. I really don’t care if people assume it’s from a show.

I have a pretty negative opinion.... maybe don't read if you've already named a child Maverick or if you think you might not want to hear it.
It's already been getting pretty popular now, before whatever movie is coming. Personally I think its super awkward that a name that means unconventional and independent is becoming so so trendy.  
A crowded bandwagon of supposed mavericks... awkward. If all these parents actually valued independent thinking so much, wouldn't they have maybe chosen a different name than everyone else? 
(I keep trying to reword that last sentence so it sounds less critical... but I give up. It's a very uncomfortable trend for me, and this is how I personally feel.)

My unborn sons name is bentlee everyone says its from teen mom and a car. But my sons actually cane up with it. My uncles name is ben my kids love their uncle ben. They wanted their brother name to be ben but my mom hates that of side of the family. So we wanted ben but didnt want a fight. So what we did was take ben and my best friends name ends with lee. Put it together Bentlee. So as long as you like the name thats all that matters.

You might get a lot of comments at first, but it will pass as he gets older and people forget that he was born the same year the sequel came out. I would keep it especially since you both love it that much.

I’m due sept 27th and we are naming him Maverick Dean. And yes it is because of top gun.. I happen to really like the movie. And Dean is for my uncle and because I love supernatural. But who cares if they think that, it’s your baby. Name him what you want.

I've loved the name Aurora for years now it's been on my baby list. The new sleeping beauty is coming out and I don't want her name associated with being a princess, we also think it's becoming super common.. I'm in the same boat my SO and I still really like it, it's the only name we immediately agreed upon. Figured we won't stress about it, and make a final decision once she's born to see if she truly fits her name.
