Birth & needles

So it may sound stupid but when you’re about to give birth etc, do they connect you to a drip? Also, does getting an epidural hurt? I heard that usually they numb the area before inserting the epidural needle but in a birth vlog I had seen the women seemed to be in pain when getting the epidural.

This whole thing stresses me out because I have an extreme fear of needles, thinking about them even makes me uncomfortable and I kind of have this weak feeling ☹️ help??
