At what age do you let your boy use a public bathroom on his own?

I'm wondering because I have a 4 1/2 year old who wants to start using the boys bathroom and it makes me nervous.

I'd say about 6-7 depending on the child.
They need to be able to reach the taps properly.
When my brother was that age I use to stand right outside the mens door waiting for him.

My son is 6 but ever since he was 5 I let him go into the men’s room. He’s old enough to be In school so he is old enough to use the men’s room instead of going into the women’s room with me.

I moved to a city when I was little and the most horrific thing happened to a little boy who went to the bathroom alone with his grandma right outside, and I’ve been scarred ever since. 
I can’t even tell you when I’d be entirely comfortable with them going in to a stalled men’s bathroom alone! The single person one is no big deal, but I don’t think I’d send them in to a multi-person men’s bathroom alone before like 7/8.
My nephew is 4 and I always take him in to the women’s room with me.

Hmmm, interesting question for me. We haven’t conceived yet, so this isn’t something I’ve had to think about yet. I know I’m going to be super nervous about this kind of thing in the future though, because all the pervs. out there make me crazy! Hmmm I’d say my husband could take him until he’s 7. Once he’s seven we’ll have to respect that he’s responsible enough to know to tell us if anything goes wrong. I may be crazy, but those are just my thoughts right now. I’d definitely be waiting outside the men’s room, but I feel as though that’s what I’d do.

in my state a four year old was sexually assaulted in a bathroom because she was unattended. so idk my kids will be with me at all times or they can hold it till we get home or find a single stall bathroom. not worth the risk these days.
