Anyone using a nipple shield?

Baby is a week old and not latching well cant get her to open her mouth wide enough or get her lips to flange (I guess that's what its called) so it very painful trying to breastfeed my doctor recommended I use a nipple shield for a little bit? Did anyone benefit from using a nipple shield and does it help with them latching better?

I used it with my son until he was about 6 months. It helped a lot plus it’s not as rough on your nipples.

Yes. I used them from about a week to six weeks. I had so much pain feeding - I would have done my completely non medicated birth three times over compared to the feeding pain. Baby started rejecting them but it was right around the time his latch improved and it became bearable in terms of pain. They saved my breastfeeding journey.

We used a nipple shield for the first month and a half or so. It honestly sucked, and I hated using it, but it definitely saved our breastfeeding journey. We successfully nursed for over a year. We stopped the nipple shield around 6 weeks I believe.

My son didn’t latch in the hospital and I was lucky if I could get one nursing session in a day. My lactation consultant gave me a nipple shield at 2 weeks and he latched immediately, and we have nursed whenever I want.

I used a nipple sheild for the 1st day of breastfeeding due to my son now wanting to latch and it def helped. He started refusing it and just latched on by day 2.
