Speech delay - would like advice
Hi Glow Mommas ,
My baby is 19 months , and still is only saying a handful of words . She understands a lot , and can point things out, but only verbalizes a few words.
At her 18 month appointment with the doctor, we brought this up . I told the doctor she used to say dog, but doesn't anymore and instead says woof or ruff . We told the doctor the 5-6 words she could say. He said that animal sounds also count as words.
Anyhow, I said I was a bit concerned, because although she is advancing and not regressing in any area the I felt that she had a speech delay.
The doctor noted during the 30-40 minute visit that our daughter does not speak much, however he did see what I meant about communicating as she points things out , tries to interact, and does ask for our attention.
Doctor said our child is a 'late bloomer' and nothing can be done until the next check up at 2 years , and maybe even 2 1/2 years .
Does anyone else have experience? Is anyone on here a speech therapist ? I feel like I should seek more help, but not sure where to turn to ??
Thank you !
