Critical thinking at a young age?

Th

A friend of mine and I were discussing this topic and I thought I should ask it here....do you think critical thinking styles should be taught at a younger age? Currently it seems to only be taught at college level and some people find it hard to grasp at that point. My friend suggested that it should be at an elementary level.

I do agree with her, however I feel that the reason it’s not is because parents wouldn’t want their kids to come home and question everything they are being told. Questions around faith might anger people and questions around fairy tails may make people feel their innocence is gone.

I feel while it’s important for parents to nurture their kids how they see fit, I don’t think it’s a bad thing if kids question what their parents and guardians tell them. I think it would help kids adapt better in society when they are older.

I know many will not agree with this next part but I also think the idea of a kids innocence needs to be evaluated. Yes they are innocent in the sense of they are growing and learning and don’t understand things just yet, but I don’t think that means people should have the mentality of “trying to keep them innocent”. Educating them age appropriately, to the realities of the world around them I feel will give them better resilience to cope with difficulties later. Having them question everything even what their parents are saying I think would be a great tool they get to develop to already have when they are older and more knowledgeable. Not learn while they are also trying to navigate the world on their own at the same time.

What are everyone’s thoughts on it?
