Would it be ridiculous if I requested this?

Question

So I’m starting a new job next week and I will need my mom to drop my 10 month old off at daycare for me now. Since this will be out of her regular routine I was thinking of asking the daycare provider to text me every morning to let me know my son has been dropped off. I’m just worried that maybe one day she me unknowingly forget about him being in the car and will go about her regular routine and he’ll be left in the hot, CA car. I do have severe anxiety, so I’m sure that’s why I’m thinking about doing this, but is this an extreme request? Would I look “dumb” for asking the daycare to do this? If so. What’s an alternative? Thanks.

I don’t think that’s an unusual anxiety to have. You could always just ask them. Another option would be to explain your anxiety to your mum and ask HER to text you at drop off each morning to reassure you. I’m sure she’d understand

Does your daycare have a check-in and out system that you can see on your phone? The ones we were looking at almost all had an app you can download to check your child in and out and see pictures throughout the day etc.

Has your mom ever given you a reason to not trust her with your child? If so then it doesn’t hurt to ask. I understand the anxiety that comes with having kids, but if she’s never given you a reason and you trust your mom then relax a bit.

I think it is common for daycares to contact you if your child is scheduled to be in that day and they don't show up. Ask them about their policy and tell them to contact you if your child is not dropped off.

Yes it would be too much. That’s not the daycares responsibility. 
An alternative would be for you to text your mom and ask if he’s been dropped off, or to ask your mom for her to text you saying that he’s been dropped off.

Instead of asking the daycare provider to text you, I'd ask your mom to text you after she has been dropped off.
Or, you can set a reminder to text your mom at a certain time each morning to ask her to confirm that she dropped the baby off at daycare.

You should text your mom or call the daycare to make sure she dropped him off, not make it the daycares responsibility to text you...

Ask the daycare what they do if a child is late. I use an in-home daycare and if we’re even 5 minutes later than normal she texts me to make sure everything’s ok and we’re on our way. If yours doesn’t have a similar rule I’d make an alarm to contact your mother when baby is supposed to be at daycare or ask her to text you at drop off. Daycares are so busy, I’d feel bad adding one more thing to their plate that can be accomplished another way.
