Trip with a toddler?

Would you let the grandma of your baby take your daughter 20 hours across the border for her first trip? My MIL wants to take my baby to Mexico for a family reunion in March. She’ll be over a year but if anything happens I can’t leave the country as I’m in the process of getting legalized. My husband would only be able to go. I’m having very mixed feelings about it.

Edit: thank you guys so much! I don’t feel comfortable with her going so she won’t be. As much as it sucks, his mother will have to deal with it.
