FTM: Do I need both a swing and a rocker?

Question

They seem redundant. One is automatic  movement and the other would be manual. Am I missing something? Just want utilize space in a 900 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment!

Good on you for being wary about how much baby gear you bring into your home. Honestly I didn’t use a swing very much and didn’t have a rocker. Plus the more baby gear you put them in, the slower their development will be as it’s less time being worn, held, or on the floor. I’m also pretty wary of how much baby gear I have in my small house. Having less really is more. I didn’t get an exersaucer, jolly jumper, or jumperoo. My kid has always just been in the baby wrap or on the floor to play. We got rid of the swing at 2.5 months and only ever used it for maybe 15 min a day. I was initially going to go with a bouncer seat since it takes up less space but we got a swing as a gift. My now 5.5 month old is now already sittting up, rolling all over the place and beginning to be mobile and will be crawling soon. I can put him on the floor for long periods of indepent play and it’s so awesome. A swing was nice when I needed some time and space but honestly not much baby gear is really essential. Our son loved his swing. It was a sanity saver for us. Unfortunately, kids are so different that it’s hard to know what they will and won’t like.

FTM here as well, we've just brought a play mat which is a 3 in 1 so it will last, and a bouncy chair where you can add or change the toys on it. We're not paying for a rocker chair x

Maybe just the swing. It takes up space but when making dinner or anything it's that much easier if baby is occupied.

They definitely are not the same thing. Most baby’s prefer the side to side swing rather then back and forth. We used a bouncer to take outside or to family’s houses and also to bring into the bathroom while I showered. So I found both useful. My first baby loved the swing so much she would fall asleep in it every time, we used it daily for 9 months. Second baby liked it aswell but toddler would try to take him out of it 🤦🏼‍♀️

We got a VERY nice swing for free from a friend. Baby loved it the first 2.5 weeks but now doesn’t seem to like it on at 3 weeks. He will still fall asleep in it off though. And he falls asleep very nicely in the stroller or car so I don’t understand. But we are thinking about one of those bouncy chairs as it’s smaller and we can move it around the house. 
We live in a 2b 2b just about 950sqft

My daughter hated her swing, $80 wasted. So it's up to you, maybe buy one when baby is here and if they don't like it you can return it. My daughter on the other hand loved her rocker, it vibrated which was awesome.

The only reason we had both was because we have a multi level home and the swing was downstairs and the rocker was upstairs. We didn’t want to have to keep moving them back and forth

We had a swing and a bounce chair. My son hated the swing and loved the bounce chair. However, when we used the vibrate mode he pooped almost instantly.

I had both. My daughter prefered the rocker but sone babies prefer the swing.
