Induction after 39w. Opinions?

Would you get induced if your doctor offered it to you after 39w? I know it’s not natural. I’ve heard that it goes great for some women and is a terrible nightmare for others. 
My doctor said that there is scientific evidence that shows that getting induced at 39 weeks is better than carrying the baby to 41 or 42 weeks. He says it actually lowers the rate for cesareans and lowers the chance of high blood pressure for mom and baby. 
Just curious on other mommy’s thoughts. Would you do it if offered? Why or why not? Have you been induced before? If so, how did it go and was it medically necessary?

I’ve had one baby already and this will be my second baby. I’ve never been induced before. I don’t like giving up control over my own body, so I tend to stick to the “natural” way of letting the body and baby do what they do on their own. However, if it were medically necessary for our health I would allow for induction. My first labor was 8 hours in active labor at the hospital (total 18 hours from first contractions to birth of baby - I played video games at home for 10 hours before going in). My first was born at 40+5 with no complications. Even though he was “overdue” his development was actually closer to that of a 39 week old baby (according to the doctors paperwork we got after). This is partly why I’d be hesitant to do elective induction at 39 weeks. Because this baby is also “overdue” but my cycle is longer than average so I wonder how developed this baby will be when she comes. If she’s also less developed than the estimated dates say she should be, than my conclusion would be that the estimated dates are off in my case. Meaning if I had induced early, my babies would be less prepared to live outside the womb than other babies the same gestational age.

Pregnancy is meant to be 40 weeks so I am refusing all induction options until 41 weeks. At 41 weeks I will consider a sweep or cervidil. Unless medically necessary there’s no reason for an induction. There’s more evidence going against unnecessary medical inductions than for them. However, most of the time inductions go fine so if you want one then that’s your choice.

I was actually scheduled for an elective induction at 39+5. The reason being my first was already a big baby so this was my chance to have number 2 before my due date because he was already measuring large too. But little man had other plans and I went into labor naturally the morning before I was scheduled for the induction.

I was induced with my daughter at 39 weeks and will be induced with this baby at 39 weeks . Induction went so smoothly with my daughter & im hoping the same for this one.

I was induced last week at 39 weeks,
I was very nervous about being induced before reaching 40 weeks, my doctor advised me to do it as my risk of a c section would be reduced and my baby would still be full term.
I went back and forth even to the point that I tried to reschedule 3 times! My husband was supportive of whatever my decision was but he was leaning towards what the doctor recommended.
Fast forward 1 week later and I followed drs orders and was induced at 39 weeks and 4 days. My labor went great, I did not tear and looking back I’m glad I did it. Read up on it, it is something that drs are now recommendating and I think it is safe.

My doctor offered me to get induced Wednesday when I’ll be 39+2. I chose to do it because my blood pressure keeps going up and down and baby is measuring 2 weeks bigger. My doctor also said the same about less risk of a c-section if you were to induce at 39 weeks. I think it’s all about your preference and what you feel is best for you and your baby!

I would totally choose to get induced at 39 weeks. With my first I was induced at 40 weeks & it was a long 19 hour labor. But in the end it was all worth it. I had absolutely no complications afterwards & I would choose it again. Unfortunately, my doctor now won’t induce till 41 weeks & I couldn’t be more upset about it.

I have had 2 inductions at 39 weeks easier labour’s didnt even use gas however I had issues with bleeding afterwards almost needed transfusion both times. I have been induced at 42 weeks there were complications with delivery almost needed an emergency caesarean and I have delivered spontaneously at 39 weeks long delivery but less complicated of the four.

I am having an elective induction at 40 weeks! My doctor says she actually prefers them and it puts my mind at ease knowing (hoping?) that everything will happen in the hospital. Otherwise, I would literally have to work up until I went into active labor on my own. I work an hour away from where I will be giving birth and if my water broke in the office, I would have to either drive myself back home (in a manual transmission) or have someone come get me. I like having the peace of mind that comes with an elective induction. I would just do whatever the doctor recommends is best for you and your baby!
