Did anyone else get prescribed medication after their first therapy visit?

When I was in 4th grade I was diagnosed w/ depression and anxiety. The year before, ADHD. The very first therapy visit they gave me a bottle of pills saying it would help “straighten out the kinks”. 2 years of continuous therapy and meds later, I was told when I was on the meds I acted like a robot. I wasn’t myself. After five years of fighting the system, I was off medication but still taking therapy. Now, after almost ten years, I am still handling my mental issues. I’ve been out of therapy for two years, off meds for 5. Apparently my friends experienced the same thing. Why do they immediately give you a bottle of pills after diagnosis?
