Birth control pill or implant. Which one has less if a risk?

I've been taking my birth control pill for 3 straight years. My periods are irregular and every now and then I get really bad cramps. I also suffer from hypothyroidism. Is it bad for me to take birth control constantly for this long? Will I be able to have kids in a near future? My mum said that I should take a break from it because it may prevent me from having kids in a near future. Is she right? And if so, do you think I have less of a risk if I switch to the implant instead?

No, it’s ok to be on birth control for years. When I see people ask this, because I thought that’s what was wrong with me, I say there is usually another reason they are not getting pregnant. 
I would ask your doctor about non-hormonal birth control. And some implants can leave scarring, that’s why mirena is recommended if you have had children, not before.

She’s wrong. I’ve been on the pill for 15+ years. And every year when I renew my prescription, I ask the doctor (I’ve moved a lot so I’ve had several doctors) if there’s any harm or risk for me being on the pill this long. And every time they always say no. 
And I just had my first kid two years ago. No problems.

I've been on the pill since I was 19 yrs old. I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism at 20 yrs old. I've been on both medications for 10 yrs. The times that I have decided to get pregnant I got pregnant in my 1st cycle after stopping birth control both times, sooo I don't recommend taking a break unless you want to get pregnant, it's different for everyone BUT you may get pregnant 1st try.
Also are your periods still irregular with birth control? I was put on birth control to regulate my cycle, which it did. I'd talk with your doctor, and never stop your meds without their input.

They really effect people differently but at the end of the day it is putting synthetic hormones into your body which isn’t good no-matter how you look at it.
