Great Grandma at 25... 🐀 UPDATE

My 5 year old had a crazy idea (thanks to her auntie) to get two female pet rats from a local pet store about 3.5 weeks ago...

To our surprise just two days ago, one of the rats gave birth to a dozen babies!! 😱

I’ve just been leaving them all alone, making sure they have ample food and water. I haven’t even tried to get too close to the babies for fear of being bitten by either the momma or aunt rat! 🤣

Is there something else that I could be doing? Their cage needs a good cleaning but I don’t want to stress mama out so I’m thinking that I should just leave it be. But for how long?

**Update: yes they’re both very much females. At the store we purchased them from, the two sexes were mixed together into the same tank so pregnancy was bound to happen.*
