How long is to long to wait for an engagement?

Me and my boyfriend both want the same goals in life. Marriage, family, ect. But how long is to long to wait for that next step. I don't want to waist my time on someone who is never going to take that next step with me.

Me and my bf have been together for 4 years. I’m 30 and he’s 35. We’re not engaged. I know I want to get married and I think he does LOL. But don’t rush it. The more you bring it up and want to rush something like that, then the more it’s going to make him back away from it bc he’ll feel pressured. Just go with the flow, have fun, live life together and when it happens it will happen

going through the same thing. some people want to have some things before marriage, a house, career, money. some people get married after a couple months of knowing eachother. some people wait years and years. what’s the rush to have a ring on the finger. if he loves you a ring doesn’t determine it.

We both want to get married (and to each other) and have more children, but we’ve been together a year and still haven’t moved in together, we’re comfortable like this now, and I’m not rushing it. It all takes time and being comfortable. If he’s not ready don’t force him.

Personally I've never need things to happen in a specific order and I've talk to my partner for years about what we want in life and when we can see ourselves doing that.

I think it depends on age. If you’re under 25 I would think 4-5 years would be the cutoff (for me) 25+ I wouldn’t wait as long and if I wasn’t engaged by 2 years I would be done with the relationship.
