I just wonder how they do it and how long it takes to get the results back. TIA!

These are tests that look for placental DNA in mom’s blood to see if there’s too much coming from any particular chromosome (ex. too much from 21 = screen positive for Down syndrome). They use various different counting methods to make those calls depending on the lab you use, but all are using some type of DNA sequencing. The fact that they’re using placental DNA in mom’s blood is also part of why these are screening tests and can have false positives/negatives - it can be hard to tell a “positive” from “noise” on the sequencer or there can be a change in the placenta that’s not representative of the fetus. That’s why confirmation by CVS or amniocentesis is recommended. Hope this helps!

It's a simple blood draw. Results can take up to 2 weeks. I got mine in a week though
