RANT: Obsessive future great-grandmother

If this were a normal grandmother, this wouldn’t bother me. We knew going into this family announcement that we would need to set boundaries. We really want my husband’s mom to have a great experience with a grand baby, since she didn’t get to have one with her baby/my husband.

So, we specifically bought her items that say “Great Grandmother”. Not just Grandmother. Here’s why:

- She consistently stole all of my husband’s “Firsts” from his mother (example: discovering that his mom was excited to see him drink from a straw for the first time, the grandmother kept him for a full weekend, forcing him to drink from straws so she could win and rub it in the mom’s face)

- She consistently bought him better gifts after finding out what his mom and dad bought him. She did this on purpose so he would love her more.

- Would listen to things that my husband was frustrated about when he was growing up, tell his parents so that he would be in trouble with them, and she would be the hero grandma.

- She didn’t like her own son because he was more of a rebel kid, she wanted a girl, and she was a southern mom during strict societal norms.

So, you can see why we’re trying to set boundaries.

Now, she’s calling our baby “My Baby”. She calls to check on “My Baby”. She actually, literally puts an emphasis on “My”?!

So over it.
