Is bleeding heavily at the beginning of pregnancy normal? (Asking for a friend)

She just found out last week she’s pregnant. Dr did a urine test to confirm.. her last period was aug 7. All of her pregnancy tests have been faint positives since she found out , but the clear blue digital does say pregnant too... yesterday afternoon she starting bleeding heavy and passing clots, she’s still bleeding today...her pregnancy tests still have faint lines.. is she having a miscarriage or could this be normal sometimes??
