Any tips on flying with a 5 month old?

My husband and I are flying from Idaho to Texas next month with our 5 month old. He hates to just be held in our laps right now. He only wants to be held while we stand up and rock him. I'm so nervous to fly with him! I don't want to be Those parents with a cranky, fussy baby the whole flight.😫 Any advice on this is welcome!
Also, I am breastfeeding and plan on feeding while taking off.

At 5/6 months I’ve brought my Boppy pillow and nursed baby just before take off... for both my boys they would then fall asleep and sleep most of the flight. The Boppy was a big help supporting the weight of a sleeping baby in my arms, and also more comfortable for them I think. 
Any older than that I’ve paid for the extra seat and bring the car seats on the plane. 
My other advice would be to check most of your luggage and limit your carryons to just the diaper bag, and absolute essentials. I use to fly strictly carryon, but with a baby my hands are full enough, so I check anything I don’t have to have in transit.
