If I prepaid for delivery with my OB, do they legally owe me a refund if I switch practices?

I never thought it would come to this so I didn't pay attention to the "fine print". I haven't talked to them yet but am nervous I won't get refunded.

I’ve not heard of pre-paying for delivery. I would call & ask for a copy of the document you signed for clarification.

I was making monthly payments and around 24 weeks, switched insurance plans to a better plan. So now not only are my payments done, I have overpaid. But they told me I won’t get the refund until after I deliver and insurance has been billed. Since you actually switched practices, though, I believe you can get the money now since it’s actually the practice holding onto the money until insurance bills them at the end. So they do have it. I would call and get that started.

I would think it depends on the language of the agreement you signed when you made the payment. I would go back and look at that.

I didn't switch but had made a few payments towards the delivery and had a 17 week loss. They sent back the money I had paid as the loss was handled at a different hospital by a different doctor.

In my case it didn't matter that I switched practices. I ended up paying the same amount I would have owed for the delivery as a "final prenatal care bill" when I switched. It was dumb.
