Can I actually catch a charge? Did they even try to protect me?

I reported a boy for sexual assault and bullying and the school got the police involved. I’ve told the school before and they didn’t do anything about it before until I emailed the board of education. The police also got the email and they said that the boy can get charges pressed against him or I could. That was one of the first things that they told me when they talked to me, I didn’t even understand the full thing of what was happening. One of the teachers even made jokes about it before he talked to me. Since I also told the school officials and they didn’t do anything then I told my mom that I’ll put their names into it and my mom didn’t understand what I was saying. The school and her are claiming to have tried to protect me but they didn’t. I reported this boy more than 3 times; something should have been done already
