Does your LO sleep on a mattress on the floor?

Question

So my girl is 5.5months old and her sleep situation is near about breaking me. The only thing that works for us has been cosleeping/bedsharing. It’s the only way I can get a night’s rest. 
BUT I hate it. I don’t want to bedshare. 
I think the closest alternative is to set up a mattress on the floor for her in our room. That way I can try and slip away once she falls asleep. 
Have you done this? Does this work for you? Any tips and suggestions for safety?

5.5 months seems kind of young to me to transition to a toddler bed situation. Sounds safer to be in a crib. Can you start with sleep training for naps? Some gentle CIO (check on baby every few minutes) until baby falls asleep??

Start sleep training, it easier at this age vs waiting til they’re older. I promise it’s easier than you think and so worth it. I trained both of mine at 6 months, both were great sleepers after that!!

From newborn my son slept in the Chicco Next To Me Co-Sleeper that attaches to the side of my bed until he was 9 months old. When he was 9 months old I was ready to transition him into his own bedroom and when we put him in his own room he went straight onto a mattress on the floor. We didnt want to get a cot (uk) for many reasons. A mattress on the floor is loads safer, it gives him his own independence, if hes having a rough night we can lay with him then easily slip away. We will be doing the same with our next baby its honestly great and I cant reccomend it enough.

If you disagree with sleep training I’d totally go for a firm twin mattress (I’m assuming your wanting to nurse the baby and the. Go back to your own bed.) I started doing that not long after this age. Just make sure no blankets or pillows. Just a single sheet and you can put pool noodles around the edges of it to help prevent her rolling off during the night but usually a mattress to the floor isn’t a very far fall anyway so you can safely not do that as well.

It’s been working for us. Cosleeping doesn’t bother me but with another baby due in a few months, we thought we’d see how my daughter went with transitioning to her own bed. Starting with her cot mattress on the floor. 
I don’t have any safety advice, it’s just working for us and I’ve even been able to stay in bed and just hold her hand while she goes to sleep. 
Oh, and keep in mind that, without your body heat, your LO may need an extra blanket or something to keep warm
