Was it wrong of me to suggest this?

My sons 1st birthday is next month. His dads great grandma came over last night for dinner and to hang out. (She’s younger and very active and in well shape, she likes to get down or run around and play with him, very active in his life) and asked what he wanted for his birthday.

I was blessed to receive/ been gifted, literally, my sons wardrobe from newborn- 24 months. I have so many clothes for him it’s crazy. And he has a lot of toys. So many i could rotate them daily and he’d have a new set for a few months. I get them for free when I catch them online or hand me down and I’m thrifty.

So she asked if he wanted any new toys and I said no thank you, we have so many I’m running out of storage.

So I suggested to get him a zoo pass, meaning me a zoo pass cause he’s obviously free. I told her I’ve been wanting to get one, especially since the one I’m looking at, I could bring a guest- not including my son- for free everytime, but being a single mom who just started back to work, I’ve been waiting for a good time to buy it.

Well she said “HE wants a pass for the zoo? How did he tell you that? Is it really for him or do you just want it? I don’t know how you’d come up with him WANTING that.”

And I said well “the pass would be for me, but for his enjoyment. I wouldn’t go to the zoo by myself.. and I could bring a guest for free, like you, with me.”

I thought it was an ok present since he doesn’t need more toys or clothes and it’ll realistically get used and he loves animals. We’ve been to the zoo once and he loved it.

I’m in San Diego so it’s a very nice zoo.

But now I’m thinking, maybe I sounded kind of ridiculous suggesting such a pricey gift for him.

I told her, of course she doesn’t have to get it or feel obligated since I brought it up, anything is much appreciated, he’s just not in any need of “things.”
