Am I going crazy? Need opinions

My brother in law was arrested 3 weeks ago for a felony he had 10 years ago. He is currently in prison and has a wife and a 10 month old. Ever since that happened my husband has been calling my BIL’s wife multiple times daily. There is not a day he does not talk to her. We live 4 hours away from them and my husband travels every weekend to see his brother in prison. Every time he goes to visit he always stops by his house to visit BIL’s wife. My BIL calls my husband daily and they talk for at least half and hour. I would understand if my husband called his brothers wife to ask about his brother, but they talk daily. My husband just told me yesterday that his brother asked him to install a gate at the stairs so baby does not climb them. Can’t the wife go to Walmart and buy one? He also said his brother asked him to go visit his wife and son more often because neighbors saw when he got arrested and he does not want them to think she is by herself. Let me add that there are 2 other brothers that live in the same city and BIL’s wife, so why does it have to be my husband? I don’t know what to think, am I imaginating things? Or does it sounds like my husband and BIL’s wife have something going on?

Sounds like your husband is the only person taking care of his brother and his sister in law. In a time of crisis family needs to come together. As for helping her with the gate, it takes a village to raise a child, not one struggling mom while dad is in prison.

Ooh. I’m getting bad vibes. I have an older brother that got divorced From his wife. My younger brother “felt bad for her” and allowed her to move in with him and his wife a few states over. The younger brother and his wife divorced a couple months later and the younger brother and old sister in law are now married.

It sounds to me like your husband is just trying to be there for his family. He’s helping give his brother some peace of mind by checking in on your sister-in-law and letting them both know that he’s willing to do what he can to make their awful situation a bit easier. I’d bet your sister-in-law is overwhelmed and very appreciative to have someone that she can count on since her husband isn’t around. Try to put yourself in her situation and if you haven’t already, you should definitely talk to your husband about how you feel.

What is the plan when you have the baby? Although it may take a village, how is he going to travel to see his brother, sister in law and child when he has a newborn? Although he may want to help, boundaries may need to be set so you and your child are not forgotten about. Also, next time, just tell him no to being dropped off.
