Breastfeeding in public

So I’m American, but I had my baby and live in a foreign country where people don’t bat an eye if women whip out their boobs and breastfeed in public. I’m going home to visit my family and have them meet the baby, but I wanted to know what the current feelings are like towards breastfeeding mother’s? Have you ever had anyone say anything negative towards you when you breastfed in public? Can I publicly breastfeed anywhere? In a mall? At a restaurant? Or do the laws differ depending on where you are? (For reference, I’ll be in Nashville and St. Louis).
