To wake sleeping baby or not to wake ?

I’ve been reading conflicting articles/postings about waking a newborn that sleeps a lot throughout the day. Has this worked for some of you? To wake baby and they will sleep better at night?

I was told to wake mine to feed because she was 5th percentile. But once she was back to birth weight and gaining okay then we could let her sleep. So I let her sleep!

I let my baby sleep when she can sleep. Haven't tried anything else really other than when we are out and waking her up by moving from one place to another and that hasn't done anything for her sleep.

In my experience, my baby sleeps better at night when she is well rested in the day. I’ve always let her sleep as much and whenever she wants to sleep and it’s not caused any unusual sleep issues for us. 
She is nearly 6 months now and I continue to do this.

The only reason to wake baby is if they have not met or exceeded their birthweight. Sleep promotes sleep.
If baby still has their days and nights mixed up, it will resolve on its own. Having a lot of natural light in the daytime will help establish the difference between day and night, which can help speed up the process.

Not true. My 7 week old sleeps almost all day sometimes but still still all night

When she was a newborn she would sleep all day if didn’t wake her every 2/3 hours to feed her.

I’m the newborn stage they sleep most of the day aslong as they’re getting fed it’s alright, it depends how old your little one is? In the beginning mine was only ever awake like 20 minutes after being fed and then straight back to sleep, but as he got older it stretched, he’s 6 months now and naps for like 20 minutes at a time so if I can manage to get a good long nap out of him I let him unless it’s too close to bedtime then I gently wake him up so he’s ready for bedtime at the right time

My baby slept alot during the day and still slept well through the night. My in laws always told me that she was so boring because of how much she slept 🙄 it is up to you if you want your baby sleeping or awake :)

The most my 2 month old has slept during the night is 11.5 hours !
