What is the reason for your induction?

I see lots of women already scheduled to be induced. What is the reason you are being induced? I'm a ftm so excuse me if this is a stupid post. My MIL lives several hours away and it's important to me that she is there when baby is born. Do you think my doctor would agree to induce me so that she can for sure be there(unless baby came sooner obviously) ? Going to talk to doc next friday just wanting some opinions :)

Your doctor most definitely won’t (or shouldn’t at least) induce you for convenience. You’re baby is top priority!! The longer baby stays in, the healthier. Unless you’re like 42 weeks.

It’s optional for me if I want an induction or not. My OB just said having your baby by 40 weeks decreases the risk of stillbirth/complications. 
I’m getting it nov 7th, but my due dates the 16th.

If I get induced (holding out as long as possible), it’ll be due to my aging placenta. I’m nearly 40 and my dr is starting to monitor that pretty closely.

Most doctors will induce if you haven't gone into labor by 39+4... Some make you wait until you've reached 40 weeks

I'm being induced because my son has dilated brain ventircles and they want to check them when he's born! She's inducing me 39 weeks or little before. I've heard of many people being offer to be induced to make it easier to have a plan and be able to get to the hospital in time. No harm in asking!

They won’t let you “elect” (or give you the option) for an induction normally until your due date.  For medical reasons, induction processes vary.  Especially for a FTM, they probably won’t let you elect unless there’s a medical reason until due date (or a few days off).  One reason they might is if you’re 35+ though.

My hospital allows you to induce at 39 weeks if you are progressing but only lets you schedule 4 days in advance. They did a large study and concluded thay it is much safer for mom and baby to induce at 39 weeks than to go past your due date. Also great for scheduling for both parents and doctor.

They will only induce you if you have to be induced, like if ur over ur due date, or ik someone that got induced bc she had GD and the baby was getting too big, but they wont induce u by choice(ur own choice) if they dont have to.

I have the option to be induced between 39-40wks because my OB wants to deliver this baby as well. He just happened to be the on call OB when my son was born and since he doesn't deliver that many in a year now, he wants to deliver this one too. He also said that since I went into labor on my own and had an uncomplicated labor/delivery last time and an uncomplicated pregnancy this time it is an option.
