Playing with a fussy baby??

Question

So my son is 10 weeks old, and I've been trying my best to read to him regularly, put him on an activity mat, offer toys, etc. but he is just not interested 90% of the time and will just scream and cry until I pick him back up. The only things he seems to enjoy right now are walks (in the stroller, in the carrier, in my arms around the house and yard..) and being sung/talked to.
Any suggestions for getting him to do other things, or should I just keep offering alternatives and not worry too much for now?
FTM and I just want to make sure I'm doing right by my son! Thank you!

He's still pretty young to do much with toys, and to pay much attention to books. I could be remembering wrong, but I don't think my little guy really started looking at toys until around 4, maybe even 5 months. It's normal for them to just want to be held when they are that young. Just keep trying, and he'll get there when he's ready 😊

Pretty normal. Sounds a lot like my daughter. She was fussy all day long unless I was holding her or taking her for a walk in a stroller. It will get better.

I was the same with my son, I wanted to entertain and stimulate him always instead of just hold him or watch TV...around 3 months is when he started to show interest in toys, and one in particular that had a mirror and was sparkly, not sure it was the mirroror catching light, but it was his favourite for over a month.  Always stimulating with toys or activities was hard, but so glad I do it because now he still never watches TV (at 19 months) and is sooo good playing, especially when I see other kids his age asking for tv shows (although he loves watching grandpa on the phone, he lives far away so we Skype often haha)

Normal for them not to be too interested in toys. I’m thinking maybe you might like to try high contrast images. Think black and White patterns. Stripes, checkerboard etc. Hold it about a foot away. They don’t have a long attention span though.

He’s 10 weeks old. Way too young for most of those things to keep them entertained. That’s more for 4-6+ when they start developing motor and gross skills and learn to hold things and understand stuff.
At this age all they care about is happy faces and cuddles.

You are doing things right. At his age he can't see very far or very clear yet. (Google baby eye sight it is pretty interesting). So that could be why he enjoys your singing and talking. Keep trying things even if he isn't happy about. Just don't do it too long if he doesn't like it. Like tummy time may have lots of complaints but it is still important. Reward him after with things he does like.
