Divorce

There is a lot of people on here. Some one has to have gone through a divorce before and I need some advice. Well not really me but my boyfriend. Him and his ex wife have been separated for years. They own no property together, my boyfriends car isn’t even in his name. They already have a set schedule with the kids that everyone has agreed upon. So I mean there is no assets to divide up, there is no custody to discuss. The ex wife is saying that this divorce is going to cost 10,000 dollars and that’s a lot of money blah blah blah. Is a divorce with no lawyers or mediators really going to cost 10,000 dollars? I feel like that is more than what my parents spent but they each had to get a lawyer and divide assets and my mom was filing alimony to. None of that is happening in this situation so why would it cost more. I’m so confused. If any of y’all been divorced how much did you spend. What was the process like. I just need some general advice.
