Breastfeeding pressure

I feel pressure by my ob and family members to breastfeed him but he will lash on for 20 sec and cry non stop then let go and grab again but don’t even stay long on so I decided to pump I get get 3/4 oz while pump enough for him to get full his 1 month. The thing is they keep telling to keep trying let him starve a little then he will latch but I don’t want to that to him. What’s the difference pumping then actually feeding from the breast?.. I don’t know what to do I feel tired and unsettled that I can’t breastfeed him from actually breast .
