Did you and your SO have 1 or 2 infant car seats?

DH and I are due in January with our first. I have a Graco Snugride 30 click connect infant car seat, and 2 extra bases. Our daughter will bring going to daycare at 8 weeks and I can leave her car seat there, and my husband and I will each have a base (I’ll drop off, he will pick up). 
However, hubby says he really wants an extra car seat too. I told him we can if he really wants but I don’t think it’s necessary to have an extra one since we have the bases. He’s worried one of us will have the car seat when the other needs it.
Just wondering if it really is best to have 2 infant car seats or if we really are fine with 1?

Infant seat stays with infant, so you don’t need two of them. You can’t drive baby around without one so there is no reason to have two, since baby isn’t going to get anywhere’s without it (unless you take baby on the bus or something)

1 infant seat, 2 bases. The seat goes with the infant. Always take it inside house or daycare. Save the money bc in 6months to a year, you’ll need a convertible car seat and those do not move easily from car to car so you’ll definitely need 2.

If he really wants to buy another car seat right now, I think it would be worth it to get a convertible car seat. I don’t think two infant car seats are necessary. As a former full time nanny/soon to be parent, I promise they’re a pain in the butt to move from car to car (the bigger ones) so I think one infant car seat with two bases is good, and eventually, two convertible car seats for when your baby outgrows the infant seat: one for your car and one for his.

We have 1 infant car seat with 2 bases and 2 Greco 4in1 seats for both of our vehicles!

We thought we would need two but realized he’s always going to be in his car seat so we just got two bases. But when he turned one he needed a new car seat like the one he’ll be in for the next few years so now we have two since it’d be too much of a hassle getting that thing in and out. So it just stays in the car.

You don’t need 2 infant seats, wherever baby is, that’s where the seat will be. We had one infant seat and 4 bases.  Then when he outgrew the infant seat, we all got our own convertible car seats that stay in the cars.
