Put off by doctor’s office
Has anyone had their dr’s office push their first appointment off until December? I found out at a doctor’s appointment at my hematologist’s office last week that I am pregnant. During my last pregnancy I had a bilateral pulmonary embolism at 25 weeks pregnant with my daughter that caused me to collapse in l &d and was near fatal. I continued to be monitored heavily by two different high risk obstetrics teams and my hematology team and a cardiologist throughout the remainder of my pregnancy and recovery from that trauma after being released from ICU.
I must be on medication for it for the remainder of my life as well as for an autoimmune disorder that came out of no where afterwards. This was an incredibly scary situation and rare for what happened that everyone in the healthcare field at our hospital knew who I was and had heard.
I call today after getting copies of my labs. I call my obs office to set up first appointment and was met on the other end of the phone with a not so pleasant receptionist I have never encountered before. She informs me that due to the loss of 3 providers, my doctor whom I’ve gone to since I was 16 is not seeing his patients but also the patients of the 3 providers they lost. So he’s booked solid until December. I explain to her why the urgency assuming she didn’t realize my medical history and then could let him know and let him make the decision. She blew me off and said call back Thursday and make an appt in December it’s the best I can do.
Hematologist office calls to schedule more labs for next month asks if I got my appt scheduled for ob since they have to work together and did through my last pregnancy I tell them they won’t see me until like December. Hematologist office is like oh no that is extremely too long, we don’t know how far along you are, but based on what we’re seeing in your labs you’d be at least 12 weeks by then, that’s way too long considering your history. So now they are trying to get it straightened out with them directly apparently the receptionist was pretty rude with them as well when they tried to explain the situation and the urgency and then gave them another number and told them if that wasn’t soon enough I could call another practice and see if I could get in.
The entire point is that all these doctors are already very familiar with what is going on and what happened why would you recommend going to another office with someone who isn’t and has no clue. It’s not like I’m a new patient.
Waiting to hear tomorrow what’s next.
