Ovarian cysts
Hi everyone,
I just wanted to share my experience. Over four years ago, I started having pain every few months. The pain would ressemble being stabbed. On June 2015, I went to the ER for the first time, and they diagnosed me with ovarian cysts (2&4cms). Told me to take tylenols and wait it out, it would go away.
October of that same year, go back to the ER: same exact pain. They diagnose, once again, ovarian cysts, except this time, they had doubled in size. See a gyneco, she prescribes me the pill 3 times a day for a week ("It'll reset your uterus") and tells me she refuses to operate.
From 2015 to 2019, I kept having the same pain a few times every year, but I stopped going to the ER. Just to give you an example, the pain is so sharp, I actually need someone to pull me from my left to right side when I'm in bed, because I can't even do that on my own. It usually lasts anywhere from 24 to 48 hours. The reason I stopped going to the ER is because I was tired of getting told to take tylenols and wait it out, especially when even dilaudid (hydromorphone, 5x stronger than morphine) doesn't bring me any relief.
Well, a few weeks back, while i was at work, the pain happened again. The problem is that I work alone (graveyard shift), so if something happens and I can't move or something, I'm fucked. I had to call my co-worker at 5AM for her to come in early. Took an appointment with my clinic, and went to the doctor that same night.
After examination, the doctor had two guesses : it was either my cysts again, or my appendix. I was sent to the ER (ughhh) where I had to spend the night.
Next morning, they run a few tests, tell me it's the cyst again, send me to a new gyneco. The gyn does a general exam, and brings me in the next week for an ecography. The result? Both my cysts have more than doubled in size again. One of them measures 8*7*6cms. I'm (finally) put on a waitlist for a cyst removal surgery.
What they explained was that the pain was caused by the cyst twisting and stuff, and, at the size of it, it's "normal to feel like you're getting stabbed."
I'm a bit nervous about the surgery. The doctor did run me through the risks, and my biggest fear is definitely to lose an ovary during the exam. I have no children at the moment, but definitely plan on having some in the future.
I'd like to hear from women who have gone through the surgery / this situation, what happened, etc.
Also, PCOS was ruled out, since I have one cyst in each ovary (that was kind of a relief).
Thank you!
