Questions about HSV1?(not sure where to post this so if it isnt right I'm sorry!!)

So I'm a mother of two beautiful children, who's separated from their father. 
Recently I met a guy I really like and he said if things got serious between us hed feel obligated to share something personal, but not until it was necessary.
He told me he was diagnosed with HSV1 about 5 years ago, he didn't want it to affect any relationship we had built but hed understand if it did. 
My questions mostly are... does anyone have experience or knowledge about this? Should I be concerned? I dont exactly know how it works. ANY advice would help so very much!

Pretty sure that’s just cold sores? My husband gets them, we’ve been together almost 7 years and I’ve never got one. You just can’t kiss or share anything orally like food, drinks, chapstick whatever, when they have one... 🤷🏽‍♀️

Hsv1 is a oral cold sore but can lead to genital herpes if the person has contact with genitals when the cold sore is in the contagious stage.

Hsv 1 is cold sores but are you sure it’s oral hsv 1 or genital hsv 1? Cause if he’s referring to cold sores mostly everyone has it I have it and I got it as a kid and have never had an active sore I don’t know what it feels like maybe I had one in my tongue but I heard it was just something else so idk if I ever experienced it my point is you probably already have the virus and not know a lot of people have it and not know I was told by a doctor that if there were 100 people in the room that he tested for hsv1 only 1-2 would come out negative IF THAT the only thing you need to be careful with is not doing anything sexual when he has an active sore on his mouth but that’s pretty much it

Herpes. My sister contracted it like that. She was sitting on the couch in pain because she had blisters on her area and didn't know what caused them. We went to the er. She was diagnosed with herpes and then she told me that she messed with a guy at a party. Very painful and incurable.
