How do I give up my favourite name?!

My partner named my son. Granted it was something I loved after hearing it but I thought it was somewhat fair that I got to pick our daughters name.
But he HATES the name I’m so in love with and can’t let go of. Even more so now that I’m pregnant with a girl and the name seems so goddamn fitting...
I was able to let go of all the boys names last time due to it not feeling right or they didn’t suit him when he was born.
My son is Spencer Alexander and I want my daughter to be named either Genevieve Lynn (middle name is a family name) or Genevieve Renee. I’m just obsessed and what’s worse is she kicks like CRAZY when I think of the name.

We made an agreement with naming our kids. With our first if it was a girl he got to name her and I got to pick the middle name. We could veto one name if we hated it. Neither of us did. I wasn’t overly fond of the name he picked at first but I like it now. With our second I got to name him and he got to pick the middle name. He was unhappy with the name I choose but didn’t hate it. So we kept it. It’s grown on him as well. With our last/current I said he can pick the first name and I get the middle name again, I don’t love either of his choices but I know I’ll love our baby either way and the name will grow on me.

If he hates it that much, I wouldn’t use it. I’m sure if you had told him you hated the boy name a lot, then maybe he would have mentioned a different name.

That sounds really hard for you, but I also can’t imagine being on the other side of that and my partner pushing for a name I hated. That would be terrible, even if I got to pick the name of our first. Maybe try taking a couple more months to think about other names together. You might end up with something you both love. If you’re feeling as strongly about it in January after considering some alternatives, revisit it. Maybe you’re SO will have changed their mind.
