Engagement rings

How do you decide what you want in a ring. My SO told me he wants me to start showing him rings I like to give him an idea- I show him some that I think are realistic and some I think are gorgeous but obviously we aren’t millionaires so it’s not happening. But I get the same reaction out of him from both... like even the ones that we could go pay in cash for he acts like that’s massive and too expensive before he even sees the price...

This is a lot of why I didn’t want to show him what rings I liked... where do I go from here?
