How long did you take off work after your child passed away?

My son suddenly passed away in his sleep at 9.5 months. I was at work while it happened and really struggling that I wasn't there. I feel dead inside and am having trouble even focusing on my other children right now. It's been 2 weeks and my job is bothering me to come back but I don't feel ready. They are paying me while I am out right now and have been amazingly supportive but I feel like 2 weeks in not enough after loosing a child I had 9.5 months to care for and taken suddenly.

As long as you need!!! That is such a devastating and life changing loss and I am so sorry and heartbroken for you. If it were me I would have trouble going back after even a few MONTHS!! I hope you have the support you need to take off as long as possible

I'd be completely destroyed. The last thing I would be thinking about is work for a long time. Have you looked into therapy to help with your grieving process?

I’m so sorry for your loss. You’re in my thoughts and prayers but 2 weeks isn’t enough. I haven’t lost a child but I lost my mom and 2 weeks wasn’t enough then; so a child that you carried 9 months and then nurtured for 9.5 months and then lost his in his sleep...yeah 2 weeks doesn’t even scratch the surface. Have you looked into short term or FMLA or something like that to see what options you have? That’s devastating.

Such little time off for a huge loss and bereavement. No don't go back to work yet. Stay strong and look for professional help for your numbness and denial, you're in a early stage of mourning. Go talk to a pastor or priest,  counsellor, your family doctor frist before proceeding with work or family duties. You're not ready yet to go back to normal life. I'll keep you in my prayers.
