My baby boy is finally here!
Alright!
It’s officially been 2 days since baby boy came into this world! It all started Friday morning after waking up to a few painful contractions. At around 11am I finally woke up and couldn’t fall back to sleep due to the pain and decided to call my doctor and ask them how close contractions should be and how many I should be having in order for me to come in. I called, and they told me that if I was counting 6 or more in an hour after drinking 32oz of water I should come in. So I wait, thinking maybe they’ll wear off, but these contractions were strong and around 4 minutes apart.
At around 12, I decided that this was real and called the doctor again and let them know that I thought it was real labor as none of the pain had subsided and nothing was helping and contractions only got closer together. I called my husbands shop, as he’s in the military, and they told him to go home and get me to the hospital lol
At this point it’s around almost 1 and my husband is finally home and contractions are getting really bad. I still need to shower and pack the rest of my bag, so I do that and get everything together and say bye to my fur baby. We drive 25 minutes to the hospital and every bump on the way there was misery🥴
Of course, the hospital was confusing as for parking and we walked into the wrong building as they told us to use the main entrance if it was daytime. We walked into the wrong building, went up a floor and realized this wasn’t right lol so we walked (slowly as every 5 seconds I had to stop for a contraction) back down and outside and just walked to my main doctors office and asked a random employee if they could help us find the labor and delivery. So she guides us there and wishes us good luck and we officially check in!
Now it’s finally time to get ready and settle and it’s 2:30pm. I put the gown on and laid down waiting for bloodwork and vitals to be done as I was told once I get bloodwork back, I can get the epidural which I wanted NOW.
So we get the bloodwork done and I’m waiting and finally I get approved for the epidural and I’m also started on antibiotic as I had tested positive for Group B strep. I was terrified of getting the epidural and was clinging on so hard to the nurse who was there at the time and she was so nice about it lol
We finally get the epidural in after two attempts and after not smiling for a couple of hours, I was able to perk up and be happy again as I was basically pain free lol 🥰🥰🥰 the epidural is LITERALLY god.
So by now it’s just waiting. We wait and wait and I’m put on pitocin as I was told the epidural slows down labor. When I checked in, my cervix was at 4cm. Right before pitocin I was at 5cm and about 30 minutes after pitocin began I was at 6-7cm and 100% effaced. So they up the dose again to a 2 and I’m checked again about an hour or so later and I’m at 9cm. I was stuck there for a while and pitocin was turned back down to a 1.
At this point I begin to feel pressure on my tailbone and begin to feel pain. I was groaning and aching so bad. The epidural wasn’t enough to stop all the pain. So I asked to get the dosage turned up and they begin to set it up. About an hour later, I was fully dilated, but not yet ready to push as part the cervix was stuck on his head and they couldn’t get it off.
I had a balloon inserted and they attempted to remove it from his head so we could start pushing, but there was no luck. Finally after a while, his head descended and I could start pushing. I was dying of pain😅
Pushing began at around 2:30am. I began to have a hard time breathing and baby’s heartbeat was dropping every time I had a contraction, so I was given oxygen to help and was moved to my side to push that was for a bit. After a while, he moved down enough to put me back into my back, and I was really able to start pushing. I began, pushed 3 times and was given oxygen after every push ended. After about an hour of pushing, we were finally able to start seeing his head and at this point I was almost going to pass out. Baby’s heart rate was still distressed after every contraction and I was told to push HARD. I was beginning to feel discouraged and at 4:02am, the doctor told me that if I couldn’t get the baby out in 10-15 minutes, I was going to have to have a c-section.
At this point, I knew it was serious and knew I for sure did NOT want a c-section and pushed with all my might with every contraction. At 4:06am, 4 minutes after that threat and 4 pushes later, my baby boy was born! He was immediately transferred to the pediatrician as they needed to check him after he was distressed for a while.
He was born 9lbs 5oz, 21 1/2 inches long and 15in head. I had a second degree tear, which I was told wasn’t bad and was given one single long stitch. Though it was the most pain I have ever been through in my life, every single second of it was worth it❤️
My baby boy is completely healthy and I just feel so proud to say that I was able to push out a giant baby! If you’re ever feeling discourage, just know, that if you listen to your body and trust your doctor or midwife, you can do it!
Here’s my baby boy now❤️❤️❤️
