Csection vs Vbac story
Ok so let me preface by saying this is not a judgmental post to anyone for their birth decision. This is simply my experiance and is to help others make a more educated decision for themselves.
I had a csection june of 2018. I had been in early labor for several days but was scheduled for an induction at 40w 5d. My labor hadnt really got going so they began my induction. The following day after many hours of laboring an epidural and several pretty bad drops in my sons heart rate we decided to go with a csection for the safety of my son. It wasnt an emergency but I was prepped for a csection. My husband had to wait outside while they prepared me. While the drs AMD nurses were kind and reassuring they were not my husband so I was far more anxious than I would've been had he been in there.
They brought him in and withing a few min my son was born. It wasnt painful but it certainly wasnt fun. They wrapped my son up and laid him on my chest for a few moments and then he and my husband had to go to another room for him to be cleaned weighed etc. I was alone again. Which I HATED. The anesthesiologist and nurse kept me company but still. It took about 30 or 45 min for them to finish me up and move me to the recovery room with my son and husband. I stayed on bed until the next morn. Moving was pretty painful at first but just became more sore than anything. I was sore most of the 6 weeks of recovery.
While unplanned I became pregnant only 7 months pp. Drs normally recommend 18mo between pregnancies my dr was comfortable allowing me to attempt a vbac. I was thankful for my csection getting my son her safely but didnt really want that experiance again.
My dr told me they would not be able to induce me for a vbac and would be far quicker to go for a csection in the event of fetal distress.
My dr wanted and needed me to go into natural labor as I couldnt have pitocin.
So October of 2019 I started having contractions at 38w2d! I was excited and shocked to have gone into labor before my due date. The morning prior to going into labor i was 3cm dilated and 90% effaced so the dr suspected it could be very soon.
I got to the hospital at 8:30pm and was 5 almost 6cm and 100% effaced. (Contractions got steady ab 4:30pm) so they got my bloodwork done for an epidural and I got that about 10pm. Thank goodness for epidurals as I was having strong contractions 2min apart. I stopped progressing for a little bit before my epidural likely due to being so tense from pain.
Once I got the epidural I felt great. No pain at all but was somehow still completely able to move. Once I got the epidural I went from 6cm to 10 in just over 2 hours and began pushing about 12:30am. That was a little hard as I had no idea how to push in spite of being able to feel the pressure. I unfortunately had to have an episiotomy so that was fun. It didnt hurt but hearing someone cut your skin is a sound you can feel lol.
His head was born and soon after his shoulders. Ill add they set a mirror up for me to watch him be born as well. When he was out to his waist the dr told me to reach down and take my baby. It was the most amazing experiance of my life. I pulled my baby out and on to my chest! And no one took him away. My husband stayed by my side the whole time. He got to cut the cord. They took him about an hour later for like 5 min to weigh him do the eye ointment etc. Then gave him back.
I was quite sore in the privates for the duration of my stay at the hospital. I had to move very very very slowly. But it wasnt unmanageable.
I'll say bonding after my vaginal delivery was easier. I mentally felt better and clearer mind.
